Despite the cold weather, MCPL fans of all ages flocked to the new Gaithersburg Library. Many heard the dedicatory speeches of local officials, including County Executive Isiah Leggett, who described libraries as a "hub of community life."
We who work amidst the stacks applaud that sentiment. And we loved hearing what people had to say: "What a beautiful library!" "It was worth the wait." "My family is so glad the library is back." We're glad you're back too.
Read more about the special day and the building's features in the County's press release about the success of the opening. Thanks to the Friends of the Library, Montgomery County, Inc., and its Gaithersburg Library Chapter for supporting our opening day's activities, including musical performances, face-painting, magic shows, crafts projects, and an appearance by Newberry-award-winning author Phyllis Reynolds Naylor.
