Construction Update: October 24 to November 7, 2012

Henley Construction Company reports that they have:
  • Started interior metal framing;
  • Completed exterior metal framing except at book drop;
  • Started installation of Stair No. 1; 
  • Started Installation of high roof;
  • Started setting air handling units at the mechanical level and in basement.;
  • Poured new electric room slab;
  • Poured chiller and generator pads;
  • Started setting boilers and pumps in basement;
  • Started hangers and duct in basement; and
  • Filled existing brick columns with concrete.

Construction Update: October 10 to October 24, 2012

Henley Construction Company reports that they have:
  • Poured MEP pads;
  • Continued with perimeter metal framing and start sheathing;
  • Started roof blocking (now 90% complete);
  • Continued with electrical rough-ins for all areas;
  • Finished ductwork mains at north end under slabs;
  • Started hanging duct mains on the second floor north end;
  • Finished planter/chiller enclosure concrete foundation; and
  • Finished foundation at new electrical room.
  • Roofing material is due on Friday.

Construction Update: September 26 to October 10, 2012

Henley Construction Company reports that they have:
  • Continued with perimeter metal framing;
  • Finished spray fire proofing under second and third decks and around perimeter framing ;
  • Poured chiller and planter walls;
  • Started roof blocking;
  • Started ductwork mains at north end under slabs;
  • Started mechanical and plumbing mains; and
  • Began overhead electrical rough-ins

Construction Update: September 13 to September 26, 2012

Henley Construction Company reports that they have:
  • finished perimeter steel framing except for extra at A line 5 & 6; 
  • finished pouring all slabs except at new electrical room;
  • began light gauge perimeter framing at north end and at light monitor;
  • began spray fireproofing under concrete slabs and perimeter;
  • finshed slab preparation on the first and second floors (plumbing and electrical);  
  • continued working on mechanical, plumbing and electrical conduit hangers;
  • started footing at chiller enclosure and planter at south end of basement; and
  • installed PEPCO duct bank and pull box.

The construction project has been underway for 281 days.

Construction Update: August 30 to September 12, 2012

Henley Construction Company reports that they have:
  • continued perimeter channel framing; 
  • finished the slab preparation for the main and second floor;
  • completed installation of stairway two;
  • poured the concrete slab on the main and second floor decks;
  • poured a portion of stairway two;  
  • continued with duct hangers on the south end; and
  • began work on the PEPCO duct bank.

The construction project has been underway for 267 days.

Construction Update: August 16 to August 29, 2012

Henley Construction Company reports that they have:
  • finished backfill of the exterior basement walls; 
  • completed the slab on deck rough ins for the north ends of the main and second floor;
  • set the steel on deck at the floor and roof above the newe electric room;
  • continued to work on installing steel on deck in all areas;
  • continued installing electric hangers; and 
  • started the plumbing prep at the slab on deck on the second floor.

The construction project has been underway for 253 days.  The major news is that the framing for the roof structure has begun.

Construction Update: August 2 to August 15, 2012

Henley Construction Company reports that they have:
  • finished backfill around the north end;
  • continued backfill work at the basement area;
  • completed waterproofing up to the brick shelf at the basement area;
  • completed the foundation drain at the basement foundation;
  • continued installing mechanical hangers in all areas, and
  • started the second floor electrical roughins at the slab on deck.

The construction project has been underway for 239 days.

Construction Update: July 19 to August 1, 2012

Henley Construction Company reports that they have:
  • continued setting steel at the north end;
  • finished damp proofing the north end;
  • arranged for inspection of the basement waterproofing work;
  • started wall rough-ins for the basement;
  • began backfill at the north end;  and
  • started installing mechanical hangers at the north end and in existing areas.

The construction project has been underway for 225 days.

Construction Update: July 5 to July 18, 2012

Henley Construction Company reports that they have:
  • continued to set stee in the north end;
  • continued to reinforce steel at the existing structures;
  • reworked the legs on the Walkercell for concrete slab thickness;
  • continued electrical rough-ins at the new electrical room;
  • relocated the main water service line; and
  • started water and damp proofing at the north end.

The construction project has been underway for 211 days.

Construction Update: June 21 to July 4, 2012

Henley Construction Company reports that they have:
  • prepared and poured the slab in the north end;
  • finished underground plumbing in the north end under the new slab;
  • finished underground electrical at the new slab except for the area where the new security gates will be located;
  • set the joist, steel, and floor deck at the basement area; 
  • installed electrical rough-ins in slab on deck at the basement area; 
  • started setting steel at the north end; and
  • worked on existing steel reinforcement.

The construction project has been underway for 196 days.

Construction Update: June 6 to June 20, 2012

Henley Construction Company reports that they have:
  • finished plumbing underground in the north end;
  • finished electric underground in the north end;
  • installed the audio loop conduit;
  • prepared the slab on grade at the north end;  and
  • set the structural steel at the basement addition.
The construction project has been underway for 184 days.

Construction Update: May 23 to June 6, 2012

Henley Construction Company reports that they have:
  • poured the basement slab;
  • formed and poured the curb and mechanical pads;
  • continued working on plumbing underground at the north end;
  • started electrical underground work at the north end; and
  • finished the telecom bank except for some back fill. 
The construction project has been underway for 170 days.

Construction Update: May 9 to May 23, 2012

Henley Construction Company reports that they have
  • finished slap preparation work in the basement;
  • finished plumbing underground in the basement;
  • continued plumbing underground in the north end; 
  • finished electrical underground work in the basement; 
  • back filled knee walls in the basement; and
  • started telecommunications duct bank work.

The construction project has been underway for 156 days.

Construction Update: April 12 to May 9, 2012

Henley Construction Company reports that they have:
  • finished footings and foundation wall in the basement area and on the north end of the building and completed necessary backfill;
  • continued working on the plumbing at the north end main level;
  • started plumbing underground in the basement, and completed the storm underground;
  • started extra work on the existing steel moving bar joists and stiffener plates;
  • continued working on removal of existing desk; and
  • mobilized electricians and materials on the site.

The construction project has been underway for 142 days.

Construction Update: March 1 to April 11, 2012

During the period from March 1 through April 11, Henley Construction Company:
  • began work on the footings on the north end of the building;
  • completed basement excavation;
  • finished existing slab sawings for underground plumbing and electrical;
  • finished footings in the basement area;
  • worked on existing slab demolition for underground plumbing and electric;
  • delivered all building underground piping to the site (sanitary and storm);
  • finished storm line piping to flow splitter;
  • started and finished placing concrete for the elevator pit;
  • started plumbing underground storm lines;
  • formed and poured basement foundation walls; and
  • started removing the metal deck.

The construction project has been underway for 114 days.

Construction Update: February 15 to March 1, 2012

Henley Construction Company reports the following:
  • finished mass demo at the north end of the building;
  • started milling for the storm line;
  • finished the undercut for the building pad on the north end of the site;
  • started basement excavation; and
  • finished demo of the building skin.

Construction Update: January 18 to February 1, 2012

During these two weeks,  Henley Construction Company:
  • demolished the north end of the building and some of the “skin” on the west side of the building;
  • began demolition of the boiler room;
  • removed portions of the roof, hooked up the generator that will be on site for the project;
  • capped off the water main;
  • and cut down the trees that have to be removed on the west side of the building due to the building’s expansion.

Construction Update: January 4 to January 18, 2012

During these two weeks, Henley Construction Company:
  • continued interior building demolition;
  • changed the entrance to its construction offices;
  • finished sediment control devices and passed inspection;
  • finished tree protection devices and passed inspection;
  • arranged for the chiller to be removed from the site;
  • held a preconstruction meeting with the Department of Permitting Services Building Inspector;
  • and started mass demolition on the north end of the building.

Construction Update: December 19, 2011, to January 4, 2012

The construction contract was executed on October 14, 2011, and a Notice to Proceed with Phase I was issued to Henley Construction Company on October 19, 2011.  A kickoff event was held at the library on December 18, 2011, and the Notice to Proceed with Phase II was issued on December 19, 2011.

Henley Construction Company accomplished the following from December 19 to January 4:
  • mobilized its crew and equipment on the site;
  • started the interior demolition;
  • held a meeting with Maryland National Capital Park and Planning to establish tree-save requirements;
  • began the process of tree protection;
  • started preparing the building for demolition.

Construction Update: November 7-November 21, 2012

Henley Construction Company reports that they have:
  • Delivered and set the chiller;
  • Continued with interior light gauge framing;
  • Finished stair 1 installation;
  • Began fabricating high roof panels;
  • Started low roof installation;
  • Finished roof blocking;
  • Continued electrical and plumbing rough-ins;
  • Finished interior CMU walls in basement area;
  • Started field measuring for windows; and
  • Started light monitor roof.
