Summer Reading Events at Gaithersburg Library


Summer is upon us! School is almost out and long summer days are ahead. Have your kids signed up for our summer reading program? This year's summer reading program is titled "Fizz! Boom! Read!" with a focus on science, technology, engineering and math books. Kids can read any books they choose, but we also have handy booklists by grade available.

Children and teens ages 0 – 16 are invited to sign up online from June 1st to August 9th. All children who sign up will receive a voucher for a Frederick Keys Baseball Game!

To celebrate summer reading, Gaithersburg Library has these fun events scheduled:

Cosmic Adventures, Thursday, June 19, 1:30 & 2:30 pm
Tour the universe in a “star dome.” Registration is required and begins June 5.
For school-aged children.  

Silkworm Science, Monday, June 23, 6:00 pm
Meet the caterpillars who spin silk. Registration is required and begins June 9. For school-aged children.

*Uno, Dos, Tres con Andres,  Tuesday, July 1, 2:00 pm
Music in Spanish and English.  For children of all ages.

*Farm Animal VisitWednesday, July 2, 10:30 am
From the Montgomery County Agricultural Fair.  For children of all ages.

*Simple Gifts Music, Thursday, July 24, 2:00 pm
Music on many instruments from many cultures.  For children of all ages. 

Sciencetellers ”Potions”, Thursday, Aug. 7, 2:00 pm
Science and stories together!  For school-aged children.  

Maryland Zoo “Living Planet”, Thursday, Aug. 21, 2:00 pm
How do animals adapt to different environments? Pick up tickets at the Information Desk, beginning at 1:00 pm day of program. For school-aged children. 

*Suitable for children of all ages, including preschool children.
