Gaithersburg Library’s Teen Writers’ Club will help kick off Summer Reading with another sidewalk publishing project. Club members will chalk original poems on the sidewalk in front of the library on Wednesday, June 1, starting at 6:30 pm.
Last summer the club took over the pavement outside the library and chalked an original children's story for library visitors. The group transcribed and illustrated the tale on the sidewalk outside the library’s entrance, and then performed a dramatic reading for onlookers. The event was covered by the Gaithersburg Town Courier.
Gaithersburg Teen Writers’ Club is open to writers aged 13-18 and meets in the teen room on the first and third Wednesdays of each month from 7-8:30 p.m. The group is sponsored by the Maryland Writers’ Association and is led by MWA volunteers Lucinda Marshall and Peggy Ruppel. Because advance preparation was required, new club members cannot be admitted on June 1st, but are welcome to observe. New members are welcome at the club’s next regular meeting on June 15.

Come cheer on our teens and celebrate summer at the library!
